It is just over 3 million polly's, and it was rendered in Max2012 with mental ray.

I cheated, because mental ray doesnt support proper spectral shine, Cebas FinalRender does though, i used a custom reflect map for the glass and settled at around a 3.5 IOR.

Oh nice. I think there are a few hacks to get a similar look in MR - Zap has something about that one his website if I remember right....

1280x720p takes approx 1hrs 2mins per frame on a 6(12)core alienware, i am still working on optimization, might share the max source at some point in the future, you could test it on your own machine, it obviously really depends on how fast that is.

Also it is just over 3 million polly's, and it was rendered in Max2012 with mental ray.

Yea, finalRender would really bump that down... finalRender for me has really cut render times on stuff that would take MR forever to do...

I love FR, but, i learned not to use it for models i might share in the future since it is very expensive, i did the Lunar Rover with that and found very few people downloaded the free model [link] since they dont have FR.

I got mine for a good bargain, as a student in college, they offer fR for like 1/9th the normal price if I recall correctly... it's be a year or so...
