Yeah its hard to get max to generate the right shaped particles without lots of computing power, i had to leave them like this just to be able to render the scene.
Ah, I see. Well, in that case, I do recommend Vue. Although it can be quite slow sometimes, it does a faily good job at rendering large masses of polygons (10000+ rocks, for example). Funny though, that I've actually tried that a few hours ago
